Angela and William were married on the 28th June 2018 during a beautiful ceremony at the First Derry Church, before hosting their reception at Redcastle Hotel, Donegal. I actually knew William from school, so I was delighted to be asked to photograph his wedding to Angela.
The couple opted for rustic vibes for their wedding day, portrayed through their choice of décor, which was definitely a talking point with guests. Their day was filled with so many amazing touches, and it was clear for everyone to see, that this pair are definitely meant to be together.
Therefore, who better to chat to about their wedding day, than this lovely couple?? With this in mind, William and Angela reflect on their wedding day in this Mr and Mrs style interview.
Biggest surprise of the day
He said: Receiving a box from my best man in the morning when we were getting ready to go to the church. Inside were a few things but the biggest surprise was from my wife-to-be, who had given me tickets to go and watch Man United play at home in March 2019!
She said: When I was walking down the stairs and my dad saw me for the first time, he had a tear in his eye. Also when Willy gave my daughter Lucy a forever ring – there wasn’t a dry eye in the place.
Best moment of the day
He said: Seeing my stunning wife-to-be for the first time as she entered the church and came walking down the aisle to meet me!
She said: The whole day but in particular, just after we exchanged rings, Willy gave Lucy a forever ring to show how much he loved her and that nothing would change just because we got married. She has a special place in his heart.
How were you feeling before the ceremony?
He said: Totally relaxed and free of nerves. I was excited about the plans we had put in place and buzzing at the thought of marrying my soul mate and best friend.
She said: I was feeling fine all day. Everyone else was running around mad when the cars were parked outside and we still didn’t have our dresses on. I was definitely the one chilling! When I got to the top of the steps at the church, that was when I got really nervous about everyone watching me. As I started walking up the aisle and saw Willy, I had the biggest smile ever and the butterflies quickly disappeared!
How did you feel when you saw your other half for the first time?
He said: Overwhelmed with emotion, in total awe of Angela’s beauty including her stunning dress. I felt totally at ease, content and ecstatic at the thought of marrying Angela. But, my legs did feel like jelly at one time too, lol.
She said: Super excited, really happy and couldn’t stop smiling. I was nervous before I saw him but when I did, I was at ease. I felt like there wasn’t anyone else there.
How would you describe the style of your wedding?
He said: I’d say we had a traditional wedding with a few wee modern twists along the way.
She said: The theme was hearts (love) and most things were made with wood so rustic. It was a relaxed wedding.
What was the most fun thing about wedding planning?
He said: In the week leading up to the wedding, we got all the bridal party (apart from the parents) together. We planned and practiced our dance routines that we were going to perform on the day. It was some craic.
She said: All the wedding fares and trying on the dress etc…. mainly everything for me.
What was the most difficult thing to agree on?
He said: Probably the style of suits for the men or maybe the dinner menus for our wedding guests. We didn’t really stress about either to be fair.
She said: We agreed on everything, which was a surprise!
How does it feel to be married?
He said: I feel content and very happy with making our marriage vows together. It’s a nice feeling to love and also to feel loved.
She said: Not much different as we have been together so long. I just got the name and the t-shirt as they say.
How was your honeymoon?
He said: Very relaxing and just what we needed after 18 months of wedding planning (in particular Angela as she did 95% of the planning).
She said: Lovely! We had a wonderful few days chilling and celebrating for 10 days after the wedding. We had lovely barbecues with family and friends and a few late night games of rounders.
Any advice for other couples?
He said: Try to enjoy your engagement but mostly the big day itself because it just flies in. Blink and it’s gone… but definitely not forgotten.
She said: Don’t try and please everyone because you won’t. It’s your day, do want you want and what makes you happy. Enjoy every minute as it flies by so quickly.
Sum up your day in a single sentence
He said: Without doubt, the best day of my life so far. It was superb from start to finish and I would not have changed any part of it.
She said: Such am amazing day and I wish I could do it again!
