Nicola and John were married on the 17th February 2018 and hosted their reception at Everglades Hotel, Derry. Despite ice and snow the previous day, their wedding day was graced with gorgeous sunshine, which was a relief for everyone! This laid back couple who are clearly meant to be, threw a seriously fun-filled wedding reception. Here, I caught up with both Nicola and John to get an account of their wedding day in their Mr and Mrs style interview.
Biggest surprise of the day
He said: The good weather. There was ice and snow the day before so we were all set for adverse weather. Luckily it proved to be a lovely day, so we were lucky.
She said: Probably the present that arrived in the morning from John. He sent me a bouquet of flowers and a watch, which, trust me, was very surprising.
Best moment of the day
He said: The marriage ceremony. It was very important to us.
She said: When we were announced as man and wife.
How were you feeling before the ceremony?
He said: I was nervous at the start and during the ceremony. When we got to the reception I started to relax.
She said: I was excited yet very calm. I surprised myself.
How did you feel when you saw your other half for the first time?
He said: Very delighted.
She said: Emotional.
How would you describe the style of your wedding?
He said: It was traditional.
She said: Very traditional.
What was the most fun thing about wedding planning?
He said: Meeting new people, pulling it all together and making new friends along the way.
She said: Probably being taken around hotels every Sunday and getting my dinner out.
What was the most difficult thing to agree on?
He said: Maybe the table plan. If we disagreed on anything, it was minor.
She said: Perhaps numbers or seating plans. We didn’t disagree on anything major, thank goodness.
How does it feel to be married?
He said: It’s great. It’s different, but good different.
She said: It feels good.
How was your honeymoon?
He said: We went on a mini-moon to Harvey’s Point for a few days after the wedding. It was a lovely, relaxing break. Our real honeymoon will be a holiday to Portugal at the end of September.
She said: It was lovely. A great start to marriage. I’m looking forward to our holiday in September.
Any advice for other couples?
He said: Make sure you have everything sorted in good time and don’t leave everything to the last minute.
She said: Get involved as much as possible. I had a groomzilla and he did very well. He did a lot of the groundwork, which was brilliant. It was great that he got so involved.
Sum up your day in a single sentence.
He said: Best day of my life.
She said: It was just a fairytale from beginning to end.
