Emma + Michael planned their perfect New Year’s Eve Wedding in the Redcastle Hotel, complete with midnight fireworks and masquerade ball!

Emma and Michael’s New Year wedding at the Redcastle Hotel in Inishowen of County Donegal was such great fun! It had everything to make you feel festive on an already special occasion. Winters, the holiday season, and the Christmassy feels were a perfect backdrop for this beautiful life event.

The wedding was filled with smiles and laughter and I really enjoyed photographing it.

The Sweet Proposal

Emma grew up in Derry and Michael across the border in Rostrevor. They both are teachers. Emma— a secondary school teacher and Michael a primary school teacher.

The lovely couple had met at a nightclub in Belfast 5 years ago where Michael asked Emma for a dance. She agreed and they danced together. They felt an immediate connection with each other and decided to stay in touch. After some more interactions and conversations, they realized they had fallen in love. Sometime later, they moved in together and on new year’s eve, Michael proposed to Emma in their home.

It was a frosty and foggy start to the day and stayed cold throughout. Father Anthony Mailey officiated Emma and Michael’s wedding ceremony at St. Columba’s Chapel in Drung. The reception was organized at the Redcastle Hotel which overlooks Lough Foyle. The guests were all given masks on their tables as the reception had a masquerade ball theme.

Michael’s favorite movie is ‘Lord of the Rings’ so some details were incorporated into the wedding from it; the biggest of it was the cake. Cottage Cakes did a brilliant job designing and baking it. Emma is a big ‘Friends’ fan so her bridesmaids had ‘Friends’ themed gift boxes and gowns. I loved this personal touch Emma and Michael gave to their wedding.

There were fireworks at midnight and all the guests started singing on the terrace of the Redcastle Hotel. I think it was a fantastic way to end their wedding and the year!
