I am happy to share the wedding of Olivia and Michael with you all today. This was one of many weddings that was reimagined due to the global pandemic. Olivia and Michael had a date in May 2020, they postponed until 2021 but then decided a year was way too long to wait for something they were so excited for so decided on an Oak Gardens wedding and then a marquee in his parents garden for the reception. The change of plans was arranged at quite late notice so unfortunately two groomsmen couldn’t make it. As you look through this wedding gallery, you’ll see a cardboard cutout of one of the groomsmen that came as a surprise to everyone. Changing wedding plans because of Covid 19 was not what anyone wanted but I love the grace and humor with which all my clients handled it.
After just a short time with Olivia and Michael, I could tell how really really well they know each other. They’re incredibly connected and Michael’s wedding gift to Oliva was an eternity ring, symbolic of that connection lasting forever. Their story started when they met 16 years ago. They kept bumping into each other through their groups of friends. A silly moment during the reception illustrated how well they really do know one another. During speeches it was revealed that during a game of Mr. and Mrs. Olivia was asked what food Michael would want to eat off of her. You would expect something like chocolate or whipped cream but Olivia said “mashed potatoes” and she was right! Obviously they’ve got a great sense of humor as well and brought this laughter and silliness to their wedding day.
You come from two different families and start a new family together when you get married. Olivia and Michael honored this by including memories from their childhoods into the wedding day. Michael drove his mum’s car because years ago, when he was a teenager, he would take her car out for a spin and then return it only after filling it up to the exact same amount of petrol so she wouldn’t know! Olivia and her father chose “My Girl” as their song for the daddy-daughter dance. When she was little they danced together to this song.
The civil ceremony took place outdoors in the bright green Oak Gardens. Small ceremonies feel especially intimate. Everyone just lit up when Olivia came down the aisle following her gorgeous bridesmaids and their vows were sweet and left all in attendance with a smile.
The reception took place in the garden of Michael’s parents. This party was full of big laughs and some happy tears. In a strange time in the world where we spent so much time isolated, you could see how grateful the friends and family were to be together to celebrate the marriage of Olivia and Michael. Everyone danced as the sun went down. Just before their final farewells, I was able to get some final gorgeous shots of the newlyweds together under the deep blue night sky.
Say hello to the fabulous vendors who helped make this wedding day so fantastic!
